February-7
Bring your current projects, your old projects, your stuck projects yearning to breathe free. We'll sort 'em out. We will also bring out the library to look for things we’ve never tried and ideas for future meeting classes. It’s future class brainstorming day.

March-6
Mini-sock taught by Mary Jane. Materials for Micro-mini sock: Thin size 10 or size 20 thread or size 10 Manuella thread or Wildflowers needlepoint thread. Hook: steel size 10 or 11. If this is too small for you, bring larger thread and appropriate hook to make a bigger sock.

April-10    Note day change
Potholder using double-thick single crochet taught by Pat Weller. Materials: Worsted weight cotton like Sugar'n Cream. Hook: G or appropriate size for yarn.

May-1
Creative anarchy. Bring your Works In Progress.

June-5
Tips for crocheted rag rugs taught by Julie. Bring clean old sheets or fabric, scissors or rotary cutter, ruler or measuring tape. Hook size: N or larger. Different methods of "stripping" and joining to make a workable skein will be demonstrated.
In addition, we'll be preparing for the book and yarn sale to be held next month. Bring needlework books and yarn you wish to donate. (see July meeting)

July-10   Note day change
BARC Book and Yarn sale! We'll be selling books (cheap) and yarn (10 cents an ounce).
The library has become so large it is unmanageable and underused. We're going to purge
the books and keep only the books that actually get checked out. Proceeds will go to
BARC charities and holiday party.

August - 7
Shepard's knitting, a slip stitch crochet technique. Taught by Mary Jane Wood. A smooth cotton is recommended with a hook size appropriate for the yarn you're using.

September - 4
Fuzzy Flip Flop taught by Bonnie. Thanks to Mary Jane.
Materials: 2 skeins fun fur (coordinating or contrasting colors recommended). 1 pair of flip flops. H hook.

October - 2
Creative Anarcy - Bring your works in progress. And planning for BARC presention at next Stitches conference. If you are interested in working at the BARC Stitches booth for at least a half day, please be sure to come to this meeting or let us know via email. Stitches is set for February 10-13 , 2005. Thanks to Jamelle for providing a space in her booth.

November - 6
CD Bag "taught" by Pat Weller. This is actually a pattern test for the kit we plan to offer at Stitches, so we'll see how understandable the written instructions are. Yarn: about 100 grams each of two coordinating colors of worsted weight yarn (or make a shorter bag with less) and an un-needed CD. Find free Aol CDs at Best Buy or other tech stores. Pat will bring some CDs. Hook size appropriate for yarn.

December - 4
BARC Holiday party. Bring festive food to share. Bring a gift, get a gift. Bring a charity item, get a gift. If you've brought charity items this past year, get a gift. Show up, get a gift.

February - 5       Updated program
We're putting together the bag kits for sale at Stitches West. Bring blank, unprinted CDs you don't need for the kits. Bring crochet items you may want to display at the booth. They will be included, if possible. Also, bring your works in progress, as usual.

February 10 - 13
Stitches West at Santa Clara Convention Center. BARC plans to have a modest presence in Jamelle's booth at the Market.

February 19-20
Road trip to Solvang, Ca. Shopping, eating, crocheting with friends at this fun destination.

March 5
Design your own poncho, taught by Mary Cahill. Make a doll or bear poncho to develop the skills necessary to design a full size poncho for yourself. Bring sportweight or lustersheen yarn and appropriate size hook or bring any size yarn just to practice techniques.

April 2
Learn the Star Stitch, taught by Mary Jane. We'll be making a carrier for those plastic water bottles.
Materials: two coordinating colors of worsted weight cotton, using a hook one size smaller than the size you'd normally use for this weight yarn.

May 7
Ruffle Stitch taught by Julie Crane. Make a amazing trivet. Julie has adapted a very old ruffling technique and updated it for the new millenium.
Materials: Size 10 Thread in various colors- Bring AT LEAST 2 colors. 5 colors are on the trivet shown here. Julie uses a size 0 steel hook but bring a variety of hooks.

June 4
Learn a handy stitch for use with fuzzy or furry yarn. Taught by Pat Weller.
Materials: A ball of smooth yarn in worsted or DK weight. A ball of fuzzy or furry yarn in a coordinating color. Buy more yarn if you want to make a larger bag or a pillow cover. Hook size appropriate for the smooth yarn. If you bring a long haired furry yarn, bring a hook size a couple of sizes larger, as well. The bag shown uses Lion Brand Cotton-Ease in Pineapple for the smooth yarn and Lion Brand Polarspun in Mango Punch as fuzzy yarn. Hook used was size G. Bring a variety of hooks to be sure.

July 9 Note day change
No meeting at Machine Knitting, instead we'll meet at Julie's house for a pot-luck party. Day: July 9. Time: 1:00pm til dark. Bring: appetizer, entree, side dish, salad, or dessert. Crochet or other WIP, show & tell, folding chair - if ya have.

August 6
Show and Tell about this year's Chainlink conference, scheduled for July 20 - 24. Attendee's who got goody bag or raffle stuff they don't want; bring it to the meeting and other members can draw from a hat and choose stuff they may want. Also, as usual, bring WIPs

September 10   Note day change
Entrelac Crochet: Bring at least two colors of smooth yarn and appropriately sized hook.

October 1
Creative Anarchy! Bring your WIPs, Show and Tell and excellent selves for fun, friendship and crochet. Oh, and knitting too, I guess.

January 7
Plaid Scarf. Cookie will teach us how to make a plaid garment.
Materials:Bring 2 to 4 colors of soft worsted weight yarn (such as Caron Simply Soft or TLC). Bring your WIPS and projects for Show and Tell. Again, meeting at First United Methodist Church.

February 4
Salt Shaker Tassels. Julie will show us how to make her fantastic tassels.
Materials: Bring Salt shaker with hole in bottom preferably.  A variety of lighter weight fancy yarns such as ribbon thread, embroidery floss, 1/8 " ribbon, 1/4" fine rickrack, designer yarns. (you can bring some worsted weight yarn for middle of tassel). Size 7 to 9 steel hooks and size 10 thead for crocheting the cover. If you have it: hot glue gun and awl (ice pick). Book or cardboard or other device to make tassels.

March 4
Big Book Sale! With no accessible place to house the BARC library, we've decided to sell off the books at deeply discounted prices. Sale proceeds will go towards the BARC fund. These are crochet and knit books, many excellent and hard to find. Cash or check. This meeting is being held, for the last time, at First United Methodist Church, 1600 Bancroft, San Leandro.

April 2 - Sunday - Note New Day
First meeting at our new location: Adela's Yarns, 20641 Rustic Drive, Castro Valley, CA 94546 in the Castro Village Shopping Center, (entrance on Castro Valley Blvd. or Rustic Dr.)
New time: 11:00 am - 2:00 pm.
Pat Weller will be teaching the Interlocking Squares stitch. Materials: Two contrasting yarns of any gauge (one ball each is fine) and appropriate hook.


May 7 Note program change
Julie will not be able to get back from her trip in time to attend BARC. So the Ruana class has been postponed.
Pat Weller will teach a crocheted rose like the one in Knit Simple magazine (Spring/Summer 2006), only this one is crocheted in one piece with no sewing. Also, a designed a nicer leaf.
Materials: Two rose colors, one leaf color, any size yarn. Hook appropriate size for yarn.
Also, CGOA conference report.

June 4
Keyhole neck warmer scarf - taught by Cookie. Materials: One ball of worsted weight yarn & appropriate sized hook. Cookie used Lion Brand Suede or get a ball of something at Adela's.

July 2
Ruana taught by Julie. A doll sized ruana will be made so you get the idea. A ruana is a poncho-esk garment which is split in the front.
Materials: An assortment of yarns and appropriate sized hooks. This may well be Julie's last meeting before she heads off to Oregon, so come to say farewell.

August 6
Trip to Luba's postponed. Creative Anarchy! Bring you work in progress. Also, let's brainstorm future classes and some field trips!

September 3    Attention! Bay bridge will be closed on this weekend! Use BART if coming from San Francisco. Directions
Meeting at Adela's as usual. Easy bullion stitch and other three-dimensional stitches. Taught by Pat Weller. An alternate way to make bullion stitch that is easier to do and requires no special hook. Materials: a smooth yarn and appropriate size hook. Two or more contrasting colors are recommended, but not required.

October 1
Passion Shrug taught by Loretta. A shrug designed by Toni with an interesting structure. To get this pattern and learn this shrug, you must buy the yarn used at Adela's. Any yarn Adela's sells can be used. Loretta estimates it will take approx. 450 yds. As usual, participation is not required. Bring you're wips and hang out, if you prefer.

October 7
FIELD TRIP! To Japanese Cultural Center in San Francisco on a quest for Japanese Craft Books. See http://www.craftlog.org/craftingjapanese/
We will meet at The Miyako Hotel lobby, 1625 Post St. at 11:00am.
- Parking: Two indoor garages nearby can be entered on Geary Street between Laguna and Webster, Fillmore Street between Geary and Post, or Post Street between Webster and Laguna. There is also an outdoor lot on Webster Street between Post and Sutter streets.
- BART & Bus: Go to the Montgomery St Stn. Then the 38 Geary, or 2, 3 and 4 buslines all serve the area.
- By car: 101 North/Fell Street exit from Bay Bridge of Highway 101; Lombard Street exit from the Golden Gate Bridge.

November 5
Passion Shrug Part II taught by Loretta. Connie, Mary Jane and Bonnie all started Passion Shrugs in October and it soon became clear we would need a second class to make a solid start on this project. If you missed October, here's your chance to make this shrug. Again, yarns must be purchased at Adela's.

December 3
Holiday Party! Bring a gift, get a gift. Food not allowed at Adela's, so we'll repair to a nearby restaurant early, after the gift exchange.

January 7
Amigirumi Mermaid taught by Cookie Shuman. Yarns in appropriate colors (tail, skin, hair, etc.) and hooks to match yarn size. The larger the yarn diameter, the larger your mermaid doll will be.

February 4
Mitered squares, "Domino crochet" see Domino Knitting, as taught by Joyce Wyatt, taught by Pat Weller. Joyce generously gave Pat permission to teach this to her guild chapter. It's only a small portion of what Joyce taught at the Oakland Chainlink conference. Take Joyce's fabulous classes at Chainlink whenever you are able. Materials: Two colors of smooth yarn and appropriate sized hook.

March 4
Program:Cupcake/flower holders for hooks and pencils - Mary Jane will teach you how to crochet neat looking holders for your pens/hooks etc.
Materials: Bring a smooth worsted weight in at least 4contrasting colors (or at least two). Bring a variety of hooks suitable for the yarn you chose. Also, bring your wips and items for Show and Tell

April 1
Bring your neglected, unfinished projects. Let's work on and get 'em done! Also we'll be brainstorming for the next few months worth of programs and field trips. We got a lot of great ideas last time we did this.

May 6        Note location change
No meeting at Adela's, instead we'll be combining with Crochet by the Bay (San Francisco group) for their annual Chinese lunch at Kathie Eng's house. Kathie will show us how to crochet a "join as you go" motif ( which can be used to make placemats, bedspreads, tablecloths, vests etc). Kathie will also provide a Chinese lunch. Bring a dessert or little something if you wish. Directions

June 3
Unfinished project day. Well, that's what's on my calendar, although I see it's what we did in April. It bears repeating though. Bring your unfinished projects and get 'em finished.

August 5
Our plan to take a field trip to Jamelle's "That Yarn Place" is canceled due to her being closed on Sunday. We can take a field trip to Petaluma, if it's not too far for people. I thought we didn't have long enough, the last time we went there. If people don't want to do that, we can go elsewhere or just stay and do our projects. Let's decide on Sunday. Bring a project and we'll see you there!

September 2
Creative anarchy! Bring your wips. We'll be planning future classes and field trips, so come and give your input. I'll bring info on the Niles Canyon train excursion.

October 7
Field Trip! Take a ride on the NILES DAYLIGHT LIMITED!
Please share this info with people who do not have internet access.

October 7, we'll ride the Niles Antique railroad to Sunol. There are places to buy food and eat in Sunol and a Park where we can crochet if the weather permits. Otherwise we'll hang at the restaurant. Bring your projects.

The train departs at 11:10 am. Come early to buy your ticket. A donation is requested. $8 for Seniors and $10 for everyone else. Time of trip is approximately 1/2 hour each way.
